Q. What do you guys sell when it's not Halloween? How do you stay in business the rest of the year?

A. Believe it or not, there are other Holidays in the year that would require costumes. There is Easter (Easter Bunny Costumes as well as Church Plays), Purim (the Jewish costumed holiday), Mardi Gras (masks, beads, etc.), Valentine's Day (cupid, sexy costumes), 4th of July (Uncle Sam, Statue of Liberty), Mermaid Parade (pirates, mermaids, fish hats), Back to School (school plays), Thanksgiving (pilgrim, native american, turkeys), Christmas (Santa Suits, Elves, Reindeer, as well as church plays, Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, Angels, etc.)

We are also in the city that never sleeps; people throw theme parties every other day! This is also the biggest theater town there is! People need costumes and props and makeup and fog machines for all sorts of things.

Q. Why don't you sell guns that look real? Where can I get one?

A. New York City law prohibits the sale of any toy gun that looks real. This means that our fake weapons must be colored in a way that looks fake, and that is why all the guns we sell are green and orange. Their shape still maintains the look of a real gun, but appears to be a toy. If you need this for a play or film I would suggest spray painting the gun or wrapping it in black tape. Otherwise it is safer to keep the gun in the bright colors.

You can buy guns that are already black in Upstate NY or NJ. If you need a gun that fires blanks, then you will need to go to a prop rental house that specializes in these type of weapons. I warn you that this kind of rental can get to be quite expensive and usually includes the rental of a real NYC police officer to supervise.

Q. Why do I have to wear a wig cap in order to try on wigs? What is the purpose of a wig cap anyway?

A. NYC law also prohibits us from letting multiple people wear the same wig without properly covering the head. It's like having to wear a sock before trying on a shoe.

Besides the public health issue, this cap is essential to comfortable and successful wig wearing. This sheer wig cap stretches to cover your own hair, helping to hold hair in, so it won't stick out from under the wig. It is best to flatten your hair evenly around your head before putting on the wig cap. I would suggest pin curls for long hair.

Q. How will I know if the costume will fit?

A. I (Stella) have had 8 years experience selling Halloween Costumes and over 10 years experience as a costumer. I train all my employees in finding the right costume for you without your having to try it on. We do this for a few reasons. If you try it on and the size is not the size my staff would have chosen for you, there is a good chance that you will damage the costume if it is too small. Please remember these are Halloween Costumes, not clothes. They are made to be adjustable and to fit a range of sizes. We will be happy to show you the costumes and all the accessories.

Of course I can not account for personal preference, which is why we offer an exchange policy. If for some reason the costume is too big or small for your liking, you may exchange it for another size or costume of equal or lesser value. Please ask our staff about the exchange policy upon purchase.

Q. I want to buy a Barney (Dora, Elmo, etc.) Mascot costume so I can entertain at Childrens' parties or make extra money on the street by wearing this costume. Do you sell these costumes? Where can I find one?

A. Please keep in mind that these are licensed characters. The companies who own these characters do NOT provide licenses for the manufacturing of retail Mascot costumes. They actively sue anybody making knockoffs and even wearing these costumes for a profit. Your child will appreciate any mascot costume, so don't take the risk.

We carry mascot costumes for rent or for sale. To buy a costume like this please expect to pay over $500. You may also rent a mascot costume for around $200. If you want to take the risk, the only place I've seen the knockoffs for sale are on EBAY.

Q. But I want a Mickey Mouse costume like they wear in Disneyland. Where can I get one of those?

A. You can't get one of those. Disney owns this license, therefore they can produce ANY costume they want for their own use. There are other costumes out there that Disney does license. Check out the new line of Sesame Street Costumes for Adults and the new line of the Muppet costumes for Adults.
